Ciah-Ciah

En ce moment à Varsovie se tient la deuxième exposition "Designer Toys" organisée par l'équipe de Subnormal.pl et nos amis de Highlandtoys.com. Cette expo regroupe plusieurs pièces de collections personnelles, des photos ainsi que des customs réalisés pour l'occasion afin de présenter au public le mouvement dans sa plus complète diversité.

Plusieurs Playing Art ont été invités à participer et c'est ici la version de l'artiste polonais Ciah-Ciah qui est dévoilée... Une œuvre réellement impressionnante entre peinture, sculpture et illustration qui fascine par la précision de son exécution.

The second edition of the exhibition "Designer Toys", organised by the team of Subnormal.pl and our friends of Highlandtoys.com is holding now. This exhibit is showing pieces fom private collections, photographies and customs especially realised for the event in order to show to the public this movement in its whole diversity.

Several Playing Art have been asked to participate and it's the interpretation of the Polish artist Ciah-Ciah that is shown here...This piece is truly impressive; something between sculpture, painting and illustration that fascinates and amazes by the quality of its execution.

THINK AIMER [θɪŋk e.me] :

Artiste Peintre contemporain, amoureux de la culture. Il utilise une technique affinée depuis 14 ans, structurée, faite de couches et surcouches pour obtenir dans un premier temps un fond travaillé qui lui permet par la suite de pouvoir coucher ses couleurs en jouant avec les reliefs et la lumière.
En 2003 il découvre l'univers des toys. Une vraie réflexion s'impose alors à lui : Comment retranscrire ses travaux sur toile sur les toys afin de sortir des sentiers battus ?
Quelques réponses essentielles apparaissent naturellement, toujours axées sur la quête de variations de lumières et de couleurs qui se jouent de leurs effets, reflets, suivant l'humeur de l'environnement ; le tout grâce à un  savant dosage  de peinture pour obtenir une juste réaction des nuances entre elles et un peu de poudre de "perlimpinpin" pour un rendu coloré et brillant.

Modern Painter, lover of culture. He is using a technique refined for 14 years, structured, made of layers and overlays, initially worked as a background that enables him thereafter to play with colours, volumes and light.
In 2003 he discovered the world of toys. A true problem is then asked to him: How to transcribe his work with canvas onto the toys and leaving the main current?Some key responses are naturally occurring, always focused on the search for variations of light and colours that are playing with their effects and reflections, depending on the mood of the environment; all thanks to a mix of paint to get a fair response of the nuances between them and a little bit of "pixie" powder for a coloured and glossy effect.

Nous attendions avec impatience de voir ce qu'il allait faire à partir de Playing Art, le résultat dépasse nos attentes, une véritable œuvre d'art. Quand Spasm One, l'auteur du Bali-Bali s'attaque à l'exercice du custom, voilà ce que ça donne : très peu de peinture, un peu de découpe, beaucoup de sculpture et énormément de talent... 

Voici donc 2 customs de l'artiste, le premier réalisé sur un KiToy et le deuxième sur notre Playing Art.

Focus Playing Art DIY

C'est en 2006 que DenisDebanne a eu l'idée de Playing Art. Il s'agissait de proposer une alternative aux plate-formes de l'époque (Qee, Dunny, Trexi...), un personnage étudié pour servir de support au graphisme mais moins figé que ses camarades.
Et puis, puisque le logo de la marque serait un singe, autant utiliser la même identité pour le jouet.

Pour que cette figurine devienne une vraie "toile" pour l'artiste, il est nécessaire d'offrir un maximum de surfaces vierges. Le but est de proposer un jouet à la personnalité forte mais facilement transformable ; c'est pour ça que la face du singe est plate, sans nez, sans yeux, sans rien. D'ailleurs personne n'est certain que ce soit bien le côté plat sa vraie face !

En plus Playing Art peut prendre plein de poses, des attitudes infinies... Zen, agressif, impassible, il devient un élement de décoration parfaitement modulable.

Depuis 2006, il y a eu beaucoup de recherches sur la forme et les articulations, de travail réalisé à la modélisation, des négociations acharnées avec le fabricant, des heures de réflexion sur le choix des matières... Et aujourd'hui Playing Art est accepté et reconnu par les artistes comme par les amateurs de bel objet.

It's back in 2006 that Denis Debanne had the idea of designing "Playing Art". The purpose was to offer an alternative to existents platforms that already existed (Qee, Dunny, Trexi...), to draw a character designed as a base for art but not as still as its friends.
And then, as the brand's logo would be a monkey, we should use the same for the toy.

In order to transform the figure into a real "frame" for the artist, we had to propose a maximum of blank surfaces. The goal is to propose a toy with a strong personality but with a shape that can be easily customized; it's why the face is flat, with no nose, no eye, no nothing. And yet, nobody's really sure that the flat side is actually the face!

What is more, Playing Art can take a lot of cool poses, an infinity of attitudes... Zen, angry, neutral, it become a piece for deco that you can change at will.

Since 2006, there has been a lot of researches on shape and joints, work done on modelling, hard negotiating with the manufacturer, hours spent on choosing the right material... And now Playing Art is well appreciated and recognized by both artists and design lovers.

Playing Art in Lille

Un gros merci à Nico du bar, expo le Monde Moderne à Lille et Foetus de Some Cool Stuff pour leur accueil chaleureux et l'organisation de la soirée. Plein de gens avaient fait le déplacement et des artistes incroyables, Skwak, Koa, Lady Alezia, Danyboy, Ki-Haï, SAS, Twan87 et Rimrimrim ont lâché leur créativité sur nos Playing Art.
Les jouets restent en exposition à la galerie pendant encore une semaine ; nous, nous prendrons des photos des customs bientôt.

A big up to Nico from the pub, gallery le Monde Moderne in Lille and to Foetus from Some Cool Stuff for their warm welcome and the organization of the event. Focus Bali-Bali

Quand Spasm One nous a promis une version de notre Playing Art, nous nous attendions à l'interprétation d'un des monstres Kaiju chers à son cœur ; nous étions assez intrigués. Mais voilà, Spasm One ne va jamais où on l'attend... On lui offre un singe, il le transforme en Barong balinais, esprit lion qu'il condamne à danser. Évidemment pour nous, ça a été le coup de foudre, ce design noir et jaune nous a immédiatement séduit. Et puis il y a des flammes, c'est cool les flammes !

When Spasm One promised us a version of our Playing Art, we were expecting an interpretation of one of the kaiju monsters dear to his heart. But now, Spasm One never goes where you expect him to go ... We offer him a monkey, he transforms it into a Balinese Barong, lion spirit that he condemned to dance. Obviously for us, it was love at first sight, this black and yellow design has immediately captivated us. And then there is flames, flames is cool!

Focus Woodi

Depuis longtemps, nous admirons le travail de Aro, l'originalité de son trait et les choix de ses couleurs (ou de ne pas utiliser la couleur) nous fascinaient. Enthousiasmé par notre projet, Christian nous a livré son interprétation de Playing Art, Woodi, le dernier singe plante de derrière Jupiter. Woodi est sauvage, Woodi est classe, Woodi est sobre, Woodi est camo, Woodi est feuilles, Woodi est plastique, Woodi est mignon, Woodi est méchant, Woodi est bleu, Woodi est noir... On adore Woodi ! ^^

We've long been admiring the work of Aro, the originality of his line and the choice of his colors (or to not use color) is fascinating us. Enthusiastic on this project, Christian has given us his interpretation of Playing Art, Woodi, the last living greenery-ape from backside of Jupiter. Woodi is wild, Woodi is classy, Woodi is sober, Woodi is camo, Woodi is leaves, Woodi is plastic, Woodi is cute, Woodi is mean, Woodi is blue, Woodi is black ... We love Woodi! ^^

Concours Playing Art chez Album Montpellier

Hier soir s'est clôturé le concours de custom sur base "Playing Art", à la librairie Album de Montpellier.
Les délais de création et d'exposition furent assez courts (fêtes de Noël obligent) mais nous sommes d'autant plus ravis des customs reçus, les artistes ayant montré une belle palette de genres et de techniques.
Et tout d'abord, félicitations aux... 2 vainqueurs !

Yesterday evening was the end of the custom contest based on "Playing Art" shape, at the librairie "Album" in Montpellier.
Time allowed for creation and exposure was relatively short (Xmas oblige) but we are particularly pleased with the customs received, the artists have shown a beautiful palette of genres and techniques.
